Best Season Ever
1964 was the most successful year in the history of football at Millis High School. With an excellent 8-1 record, the Millis Mohawks became a formidable adversary to all league opponents, even defeating their formerly unbeatable rival, Medway, by a close two points.
Many school records were toppled during this remarkable season, and high-scoring Co-captain Bill Toffling missed the school scoring record by only a scant few points. The team's success could not be credited to the players' magnitudinous physiques, but rather to the great team spirit and will-to-win instilled in them by Coaches Nelson, Wilson, and Davis.
"We'll win this one for Mr. Welch!"
— Team rallying cry, 1964 seasonThe season held special significance as the Millis High School football field was dedicated to the memory of Mr. Frederick J. Welch on Friday evening, October 11th. Mr. Welch's contributions to the Town of Millis and especially to its youth could never be forgotten, and the team honored his legacy with their historic performance.
